North Kerry

For a holiday that offers diverse indoor and outdoor activities, magnificent scenery, fine beaches, history and culture – all at a relaxing pace – it’s difficult to beat North Kerry.

In strong contrast to the mountainous areas elsewhere in Kerry, here fertile plains stretch as far as the eye can see. Along the coastline are miles of magnificent beaches – ideal for bathing, surfing and angling.

The coast is also important commercially; Fenit is a busy fishing port and export centre; Tarbert is linked by ferry to County Clare across the river Shannon. Tralee, best known for its Rose beauty festival, has a host of all-weather attractions and a number of fine shopping malls. The town is also an ideal centre for day tours to the rest of Kerry. The market town of Castleisland has marvellous show caves and is the hub of Sliabh Luachra, an area noted for traditional music and dance. You may want to follow in the divot marks of some of the world’s top golfers at Ballybunion or visit the lovely town of Listowel and learn more about the many fine writers it has produced. Think different!
