Horse Riding in Kerry, Ireland
There is no better way to explore the Kerry landscape than on horse-back. The wild and rugged hills and valleys have miles of old roadways and paths. Some are old coach-roads, some were once butter-roads, used to bring butter across the mountains of South Kerry to the markets in Cork City. Others however date from the days of the Early Christian period in the 6th century and were used by monks travelling between monasteries. Throughout the landscape there is real evidence of ancient times – 4,000 year-old megalithic tombs, 2,000 year-old stone forts, monastic settlements and lofty castles from the wars of the 15th - 17th centuries. Not only is Kerry blessed with a treasure chest of archaeology, it also has a very rich flora and fauna. White-tailed eagles, red deer, the unique flora such as the Greater Butterworth among others await you in the beautiful hills and valleys. Full information on exploring the fascinating part of Ireland can be had from Eclipse Ireland |
