Angling in KerryIreland is many things to many people: to some a land of ancient customs and myths, to others an arena where Celtic gods did battle with the waters of the world. Fishing in Kerry is a very special experience; the natural beauty, mild climate and prolific fish stocks combine to produce the ultimate angling experience. Managed Rainbow Trout LakesSituated in some of the most scenic parts of Kerry are the four rainbow trout fisheries stocked and managed by the Board. These attractive lakes offer excellent sport to casual and experienced anglers (rainbow up to 9 kilos have been caught) and are readily accessible from the road. Boats are available for hire. Season2nd June to 31st August. (Some lakes do occasionally open earlier, so check locally). Permits / Tickets:

The Kerry BlackwaterThe Kerry Blackwater is 16 kilometres long and drains 54 square kilometres of broadleaf forest, lowland pasture, and rough moorland, including three loughs. The river offers a variety of clearly marked pools and runs and receives an excellent run of grilse and a run of lively salmon to 4.5 kilos. Expert advice is readily available from Fishery staff or the Fishery Manager. Boats can be hired on Lough Brin, where on summer evenings you can enjoy excellent brown trout angling in a truly spectacular setting. Ghilly services and fly casting lessons are available from our qualified Fisheries Board personnel. Season:Sea Trout / Brown Trout - 15th March to 12th October. Permits / Tickets:Day tickets cost £20.00. A State rod licence is required. Lough Brin day tickets cost £5.00. Boat hire is £3.00 per half day. Booking is advisable. An evening permit is available at £10. Permit Distributors:South Western Regional Fisheries Board, The Fishing Hut on the River Blackwater. The River LauneThe waters of the Laune under the control of the South West Regional Fisheries Board extend for 3.2 kilometres on the right bank and 0.5 kilometres on the left bank. The river enjoys a run of salmon throughout the year and a good spring run. The fishery is five miles from Killarney in a lovely wooded setting easily accessible from the road. The river drains the largest of the Killarney Lakes, Lough Leane, which is famous for its brown trout. A ghilly service is available, and Fishery Board personnel are on hand to offer advice and assistance. Season:17th January - 30th September (inclusive) Times:Salmon - 8 am until one hour after sunset or 10 pm, whichever is earliest.
